Mary,
The only thing that can be proven from your reply is a one-year-old girl, Bridget LANIGAN, on the 1860 Federal Census Mortality Schedule. As I stated in my previous reply, we have no record of the burial of this little girl in Jefferson County. She died here, but if she's buried within the county then such burial is undocumented and likely to never be proved.

You say John LANIGAN and his brother James are in the 1860 Federal Census for Jefferson County. Again I will state that a search in the 1860 Federal Census for Jefferson County turns up NO LANIGANs. There are a couple families of LARRIGINs in the census, not LANIGANs, who happen to have males named John and James. If you think these are your people then such a spelling variation should be noted when you request help. Because of your casual omission, in trying to help you I've wasted at least an hour trying to prove your allegations.

The last thing a volunteer wants to be told, after spending a lot of time hunting down information (and not charging for it, mind you) is, "Oh, I already know that," or "I already have that." If you have facts, STATE THEM; if you have resources, ACCURATELY CITE THEM. If there's a spelling variation, MAKE IT KNOWN. If you're looking for a specific piece of information, SPECIFY IT. Asking a volunteer for "anything on _________" surname without providing SOME particulars only leaves the volunteer as clueless as the researcher. You're not going to get much help if you aren't helpful in providing what facts you know in the first place.

Verda Baird tried to help you a dozen years ago and didn't come up with anything that wasn't brought up as a result of this inquiry. If Verda couldn't dig any more information up then, and can't dig up any more now, then there's no more to be had. You'll have to be satisfied with what you do have.

This discussion is now CLOSED - no further replies will be accepted.
