I am searching for an ancestor of my husband's. The father of the family was named Martin HAYS, the mother was Mary, and there were several children. Martin and Mary were born in Ireland. Ancestry.com shows there was a Martin HAYS enumerated on some kind of census taken in 1852 in Otter Creek Twp, Jackson County, Iowa. I believe this may be our Martin. Can anybody tell me if there was an Iowa state census taken in 1852, and if so, would it show the name of everyone who lived in the household, or just head of household.
