Obituary – Dr. C. F. Besore
Calvin Ferguson Besore, son of the late Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Besore, was born at Bangor, Mich., December 8, 1870 and died at his home shortly afternoon Thursday, October 25, 1945. His death while not entirely unexpected was sudden and the end came without the lingering illness which he had expressed the hope would not be his lot. “Doc” Besore as he was commonly known by all in this community came to Ida Grove with his parents when a young boy and has lived here continuously since. Since receiving his degree in dental surgery 55 years ago he has practiced his profession for more than 50 years in Ida Grove. He retired from active practice about a year ago. He was a sincere and ardent supporter of Masonery in all of its branches and gave willingly of his time in the support of its teachings. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the other branches. The last office he held was that of Emminent Commander of Mizpah Commandery. Last year he was presented with a 50 year certificate for membership in Masonery. He was united in marriage with Celia Gardner Fibbs in 1891. To this union four children were born all of whom with the widow survive. They are Calvin Jr., of Holstein, Mrs. R. C. Sawyer (Ruth), Arnolds Park; Mrs. Gilbert Brown (Julia), Waterloo and Philip Besore of Ida Grove. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Lt. Phil Sawyer and Pvt. Gilbert Brown now serving with the Army Air Forces; John and Calvin Besore and Jo Lee Brown. His presence will be keenly missed by his family as a dutiful husband, a kind and loving father and a good and cheerful neighbor. Only his closest friends knew of his generosity in contributing to the needy and distressed. He served on the school board several years, being one of the members who were instrumental in the erection of the new school building. His untiring efforts were given generously in the upbuilding of the community. Funeral services were held at Moore & Christensen Funeral Home Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. T. B. Collins officiating. The Masonic rites were in charge of Kane Lodge No. 377. Mrs. E. A. Swanke sang “When You Come to the End of the Road,” accompanied by Mrs. R. J. McNelly. Interment was in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pall bearers were Dr. J. A. Nye, L. V. Overholtzer, R. B. Baxter, Arthur Ramge, Ward Krick and F. R. Maxwell. Source – Ida County Pioneer Record, Ida Grove, Iowa, Thursday, November 1, 1945, p.6
