Cushing – Funeral services for Mrs. C. E. Lowery Sr., were conducted in the Cushing Methodist church at 2 p.m. July 25, Rev. Harry Whyte, pastor of the Methodist Church at Rockwell City, officiated and was assisted by Rev. W. H. Lease. Mrs. Morris Christman, accompanied by Mrs. L. M. Wallace, sang two selections. Mrs. E. H. Ohme and Mrs. F. W. Baumann took care of the flowers. The pallbearers were C. E. Hass of Cherokee, H. E. McGuire of Holstein, Walter Bullock, E. H. Ohme, J. J. Pruehs and Charles Hillen. Burial was at Fredericksburg. Martha Janella Thorn was born April 5, 1863, near Pecatonica, Ill. She moved with her parents to Fredericksburg, Ia., in 1877 and was married Dec. 2, 1886 to Clarence E. Lowry. Two sons were born to them. They lived on a farm near Fredericksburg until the fall of 1907 when they came to Cushing. This was their home until 1940 when they went to Cherokee to make their home with their son Clint. There Mr. Lowry died on Feb. 6, 1942. Her health failed at that time, and she died on July 22, 1945, at the age of 83 years, three months and 17 days. Mrs. Lowry was active in political and temperance circles, having been Woodbury County corresponding secretary of the W. C. T. U. for many years and held a life membership in that organization. She also served as Republican committee woman in this township for some time. She is survived by two sons, Lind of Ames and Clint of Cherokee; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two brothers, Frank E. and Winfield E.
