Death by Suicide.
The many friends of Fred Decker, aged about 42 years, were greatly shocked to hear on Saturday morning that he had committed suicide by hanging. He rose early and after starting the chores and starting his sons at the milking disappeared and not appearing when breakfast was ready. Search was made and he was found hanging in the oat bin. The sheriff and coroner were called, but an inquest was not considered necessary. A shock from lightning several years ago and considerable sickness in the family the past winter has caused him considerable mental trouble and it was doubtless in a fit of depression that he took his life.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the home, conducted by Rev. Pless, and the W. M. A. conducted the services at the grave. The W. O. W. of which Mr. Decker was also a member, participated in the funeral. Burial was in New Oregon Cemetery.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born June 4, 1875 and died May 24, 1919.
