Sudden Death of Mrs. Nellie Hanson.
John Walton was notified by telegram Monday evening that his sister, Mrs. Nellie Hanson, had died on the train enroute from Minneapolis to her home, and that the body had been taken off the train and conveyed to an undertaking establishment at Faribault.
Mrs. Hanson had a severe attack of influenza during the winter, which left her heart in a badly weakened condition, heart failure being the cause of her death. She passed away without warning. A couple from Decorah sitting in the seat behind Mrs. Hanson noticed her lay her head back on the cushions after eating part of an orange, and supposed she was sleeping till a physician who came through the train noticed that she was dead.
Nellie Walton, youngest daughter of Joseph and Harriet Walton, was born Feb. 28, 1868 in Winneshiek county Ia. and died May 26, 1919, aged 51 years and 2 months.
She was united in marriage with Gabe Hanson, Jan. 23, 1889. To this union were born four children, one son Joseph surviving. She resided on the farm until her husband passed away in 1904. She then made her home with her aged parents in Cresco, Ia., caring for them the duration of their lives. Besides her son Joseph she is survived by two brothers and a sister. John Walton, Cresco, Ia., James Walton of Minneapolis and Mrs. Clarence Christen of Decorah, Ia.
She was a most devoted mother, a loving daughter and sister, an ever ready friend in need. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at the home, conducted by Rev. McVettie, with interment in Oak Lawn.
