OBITUARY.
SCHAEFER.
Andrew Schaefer was born in Bavaria, Germany, on October 30th, 1839, and died in Cresco, Iowa, on May 4th, 1919, aged 79 years, 6 months and 4 days. He came to the United States in 1854, and after spending one summer in Freeport, Illinois, came to Iowa in September 1855. He has lived ever since in Winneshiek and Howard Counties.
On July 9th, 1871, at Preston, Minnesota, he was united in marriage with Phebe Pomeroy. To this union eight children were born: two died in infancy, Adrian died in July 1905, Ruth Durfee died on June 6th, 1914. Those who remain are Andrew, of Pasadena, California, Charles of Columbia, South Dakota, Herbert, of Cresco, Iowa, and Mrs. Fred Howard of Corell, Minnesota. There were also two adopted children, Sidney McIntyre, of Mason City, Iowa, and Mrs. Maude Kitchen, of Blunt, South Dakota. A sister, Mrs. Caroline Fletcher, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, also survived. Besides these are several grandchildren and many friends who remain to mourn their loss.
Mr. Schaefer was one of the earliest settlers in this country and knew the hardships of early pioneer life.

CARD OF THANKS.
We desire to express our deep appreciation to our friends who showed so many kindnesses during the sickness and at the time of the death of our husband and father.
