OBITUARY.
MINCHK.
Jacob Minchk, Allamakee pioneer, was born May 26, 1838, in Pittsburg, Penn., and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Webster, of Cresco, Ia., April 14, 1919, at the age of 81 years. He was buried in the New Oregon cemetery. Jacob Minchk was the second oldest of a family of fifteen children, all of whom preceded him to the grave but Nicholas Minchk of Fresno, California, Mrs. Nancy Young and Mrs. Johanna Hoobler, Lansing, Iowa. The past few years he spent most of his time visiting friends and relatives. About two years ago he spent a few months with his brother Nicholas in California. There he suffered two strokes of paralysis and the third came resulting in death. He spent most of his boyhood days on the home farm near Harper’s Ferry. In 1862 he enlisted in the Union army and served three years. In the “Jacob Minchk recollections” which he contributed a glimpse of his busy life is shown. He followed carpenter work for years. In the later 60’s he conducted a steam saw mill of his own, working at building in summer and sawing timber in winter. Jacob Minchk was married three times. Four children are living, Hannah, Ada, Bertha and Ida, all of whom are married. His last marriage to Mrs. King took place at Waukon, Ia. There he resided until her death about three years ago. He was always of a happy disposition, ready to give a joke and could entertain you for hours with songs and stories.—Allamakee County Journal.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born May 12, 1838 and died April 16, 1919 which does not agree with the above. His gravestone also shows he died April 16, 1919.
