OBITUARY.
WEBSTER
Calvin F. Webster, one of the pioneer settlers of Howard county and for many years one of its prominent and most highly respected citizens, died at his home in Omaha, April 19th. The remains were brought to Cresco Monday and taken to Oaklawn where a brief service was held conducted by Rev. W. A. Bockover and Cresco Lodge I. O. O. F., deceased being the last of the charter members of this society.
Mr. Webster was born June 3, 1830, in Richland county, Ohio. He came to Howard county in 1856 and located on a farm in Howard Center twp. Oct. 14, 1857, he was married to Miss Serena I. Irvine at Door Village, Ind. With the exception of the last three years they made their home continuously in this vicinity.
Mr. Webster served as clerk of the district court for several years in the early eighties and also held other positions of trust and honor. His influence was always on the side of right and justice and during the active period of his life was a prominent factor in shaping the community life, leaving an impress which will endure.
We hope to have a more extended record of his life work for future publication.
