Malenius Mortensen Typhoid Victim

Malenius Cooper Mortensen, whose sickness of typhoid was reported in the Record last week, succumbed to an intestinal hemorrhage caused by typhoid ulcerations, passing away shortly before midnight Friday, April 10th. Funeral services were held at the Mortensen farm home 7 miles northwest of Jewell at one o'clock Tuesday afternoon and at two o'clock from Zion church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Martin Norstad, and the body was laid at rest in Evergreen cemetery in Jewell, beside his mother who died the 6th of June of last year. The attendance at the funeral services was exceptionally large, scores being unable to enter the church building. Floral offerings were both beautiful and numerous.

Malenius Mortenson was born on the farm northwest of Jewell where he lived all of his life and at which place occurred his death. He was born Feb. 26, 1892, being 22 years, 1 month and 14 days old. He was baptized at Clear Lake and Ellsworth Lutheran church and at the age of about fifteen was confirmed at Zion church. He is survived by his father, Ole M. Mortenson, and five brothers, James, of Newark, Ill., Lars, Otto, and Morten of Worthington, Minn., and Thorvald, who with Malenius was farming the home place this year. The father and al of the brothers, and also Mrs. James Mortensen, were here for the funeral services. Others from a distance were Jas. T. Jensen, of Chicago, and Miss Hattie Jensen, of Chicago, cousins. Will Larson, Andrew Nelson, Chas. Knox, Elmer Rahto, H. Anderson, and S. Anderson acted as pall bearers.
