OBITUARY

ELLING N. ROGNEHAUG

Elling N. Rognehaug, son of Nels and Marie Rognehaug, was born in Fardal, Sogn, Norway, on April 3, 1855, and passed away at the hospital in Story City on June 9, 1942, at the age of 87 years, two months and six days.

He was baptized and confirmed in Norway by Pastor Jacob Smith. The 17th of May, 1881--then 26 years old--he came from Norway to Fort Dodge, Iowa, where he remained for nine years.

Sept.12th, 1889 Mr. Rognehaug was united in marriage to Anna Margaret Eide of Roland, Rev. N. G. Peterson officiating. In 1894 he bought a farm four miles east of Randall where the family lived until they moved to Story City in 1915.

Mr. and Mrs. Rognehaug became the parents of eight children, of whom two have preceded him in death, namely, Clarence, who died in 1901, and Mrs. Julia Henderson, who died in 1919. The children who survive are: Mrs. Marie Anfinson of Crystal Lake, Minn., Mrs. Nellie Durby of Leland, Nels of Thompson, Mrs. Mable Durby of Buffalo Center, Mrs. Helen Sowers of Jewell, Mrs. Clara Smith of Los Angeles, and a foster son, Martin Sorenson of Spring Valley, Minn. He also leaves 24 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

After the death of Mrs. Rognehaug, Dec. 6, 1936, Mr. Rognehaug spent two years with his children, most of the time with his daughter, Mrs. Pearly Sowers. The last three years he has made his home at the Sunset Home in Story City.

While living near Randal the Rognehaugs belonged to the Elim Lutheran church. While at Story City they have been members of the Bethel church. Mr. Rognehaug was a righteous made in his dealings with his fellowmen, a sincere Christian and a faithful church member, willing to take his share in the vineyard of the Lord. He was a good neighbor, husband and father.

Funeral services were held at the Sunset Home Thursday, June 11, at ten o'clock, where Rev. P. Buland officiated, and at the Pearly Sowers home and Bethel church in the afternoon, where Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated, assisted by the Rev. Buland. Rowine and Darlene Rognehaug sang a duet at the home and in the church. Many of the friends and relatives of the deceased were present at the funeral to pay their last respects to this noble neighbor and friend. A good sum of money was given to different missions in his memory. The casket bearers were Louis Braland, Sam Jacobson, John Oppedal, John Okland, John Sunnoe and A. J. Henryson. Interment was made at the Mamrelund cemetery, northeast of Story City.
