I checked the Emmet County Recorder Office in the county courthouse in Estherville. I was told there was no information available in that office. The Emmet County Recorder gave me the following state office address for you and suggested that you contact: Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of Vital Records, Lucas State Office Building, lst Floor, 321 E. 12th St., Des Moines, IA 50319-0075. Ph. 515-281-4944.
The only reference to the Auten name was found in the following personal item which appeared in the Estherville Vindicator and Republican newspaper dated Wed., Dec. 24, 1919: Miss Viola Auten of West Chester (Washington County, Iowa) is visiting her sister, Miss Ena Auten who is one of the teachers in the Maple Hill consolidated schools. Miss Viola is attending Des Moines College.
