Tim, aka "Gate", was born June 18, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Bernie and Gloria Lowe. In his early years, Tim remembered Louis Armstrong's numerous visits to their home on Ridge Road. Until the early morning, sounds of big brass, conversation and laughter would fill the home and his father in turn passed along his appreciation of music. He attended Greenwood Elementary and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1963. While Tim was at the University of Iowa, he found two loves, the Hawkeyes and his life partner and soul mate, Terrie Lee. Together they created an amazing family and as most people do, experienced the peaks and valleys of raising three amazing & crazy children, opening a dental practice in Des Moines and buying their first home in Beaverdale.
He was known to many as PAWK! His license plate reflected his love for his granddaughters Grace and Olivia. Grace coined the nickname and in just a few years, Tim's 40+ year old nickname of Gate was replaced.Tim loved taking his dogs to the cemetery, he loved his practice and the very dear people he worked with everyday. Tim adored movies, old gangsters and any books about conspiracy theory. You could always find him in the kitchen perfecting his recipes for pizza, cinnamon rolls, salad dressings and sauce. He shared his love of food with many including people and organizations in need. As a dentist, he often picked up his patients from their nursing home and drove them back and forth, a dentist taxi of sorts.
He was surrounded by all he loved, his family, a host of wonderful friends, his Doberman companions, his loving granddaughters, the Iowa Hawkeyes, a library full of books and most importantly, his wife, who will never stop loving him.
This man was a celebration. He was loved by many, he was real, he loved good food and the people that came to enjoy it. The Lowe family is ruled by their belly....we owe that to him.
His motto was simply, "You know what is right, you know what you got to do, it's all right there inside your heart, You know what it is".
