The marriage of Miss Inez Mae Jennings to Cpl. Vernon A. Akers took place Sunday in St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church at Garber with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jennings of Garber. The groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. James A. Akers of Cedar Rapids. The bride's attendants were Mrs. Clyde Jennings as matron of honor and Mrs. James L. Akers Jr. as bridesmaid. James L. Akers Jr. attended his brother as best man, and the bride's brother, Clyde Jennings acted as groomsman.
At the reception for about 200 guests in the church parlors, the bride's aunt, Melinda Feidt, cut the wedding cake.
Mrs. Akers is a graduate of the Elkport high school and attended Elkader junior college and Upper Iowa University. She taught school near Elkader, in the Luana grade school and Dysart grade schools. She had been employed at Collins Radio Co. in Cedar Rapids. Her husband attended Roosevelt and McKinley high school in Cedar Rapids. He is now in the U.S. Marines at Quantico, Va.
The new couple will will make their home in Virginia.
