Frank Dreyer, 84, of Cherokee, died Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 2:45 a.m. in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held Oct. 9 from the Boothby Funeral home. Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee.

Frank was born Oct. 19, 1913 in Cherokee County to William and Ella (Mongan) Dreyer. He attended schools at Aurelia graduating in 1933. He was married to Helen Crippen on Sept. 3, 1936 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Aurelia. His home was 612 North Sherman Ave. He had lived in Cherokee since 1974. He had farmed in Afton, Pilot and Cedar townships until 1974, when he moved to Cherokee. He then worked as custodian for the Cherokee Community Schools until he retired in 1985. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church, was a former President of the Cherokee Farm Bureau and had served on the Afton Township School Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Dorothy Phipps and Peggy Dreyer, a grandson, Steven Benson, a son-in-law, Vernon Benson, and three sisters, Clara Otto, Esther Mahler, and Lucille Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, one daughter and one son, Connie Benson of Cherokee; Ronald Dreyer of Cherokee; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and three sisters: Ruth Dreyer of Cherokee, Mary Johnson of Cherokee, Pauline Stief and her husband, Bernie of Cherokee.
