Funeral services for Virgil L. Larson, 81, Aurelia, will be Friday, October 9 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, with Pastor Dick Dahle officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia, with military honors by Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390. Visitation will be Thursday at the Wharton-Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia

Larson died Monday, October 5, 1998, at the Hilltop Care Center in Cherokee, where he had been a resident since January 1996.

Virgil Sven LaVern Larson was born January 2, 1917, the son of George H. and Lydia J. (Lydell) Larson, in Aurelia. He attended school in Aurelia, graduating in 1936. On August 20, 1938, he married Anna Loux in the Congregational parsonage in Aurelia. He served in the Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He farmed, ran a corn sheller, worked in a dairy and retired from Wilson’s in 1979. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, and was a member of the Aurelia American Legion and the Cherokee V FW. He enjoyed gardening, golfing and watching all sports.

Survivors include his wife, Anna, of Aurelia; one son, LaVerne and his wife Kay of Commerce, Georgia; one daughter, Anita and her husband Jim Mackay of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; six grandchildren, Deron Larson and his wife Vanessa, Bret Larson, Chad Mackay and his wife Tracy Solar, Mark Mackay and his wife Anita, Lennelle Larson and Matthew Larson; six great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Janice Grillo of Naperville, Illinois; and two brothers, Orville Larson of Des Moines and Earl Larson of Virginia; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
