OBITUARY
James C. Farr
Seldom is a community more shocked than was this one last Wednesday morning when it was learned of the sudden death of Mr. J. C. Farr. He had been troubled with heart disease for a number of years, and frequently had sinking spells, but for a few days had been feeling unusually well, but in the night was taken suddenly worse and died before Mrs. Farr could call any of the children.James C Farr was born at Auldeman Plains, Canada, October 21, 1838, and died at his home in Diamond township, May 9, 1894; being his 28th wedding anniversary, was 55 years, 6 months and 18 days old. He moved to Wisconsin with his parents when eight years old. At the breaking out of the rebellion he enlisted in the three months service and then re-enlisted November 29, 1862, in company K, 11th regiment, Wisconsin volunteers, and served during the war. Was married to Kate A. Stone, May 9, 1866, and moved in a few days to Minnesota, where he lived until 1881, when he moved to this township and improved and built up his late home.
Mr. Farr was a member of the M. E. church at Diamond Center, having united with the church several years ago. He had one son and three daughters, who with a dear companion are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father. He joined the Masonic order in 1869, at Fairmont, Minnesota, and at the time of his death held a card from the lodge there. The Masonic order had charge of the services and buried him with all the honors of the order. Rev. Glasgow, of Aurelia, preached the funeral discourse. There was about sixty members of the fraternity in line. The beautiful burial rites and ceremonies of the order were very impressive, rendered doubly so by Mr. Gillette, of Cherokee, who as master of ceremonies, is par excellence. This was by far the largest funeral ever held at Diamond Center. The church would not hold more than half of those who had gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased. Diamond Township. May 15, 1894.
CARD OF THANKS
To the many friends who so kindly extended their help and sympathy in our recent great loss, we desire to express our sincere thanks, and especially do we wish to thank the Masonic fraternity for their kindly assistance at the burial of our loved one; for these kind acts you will always be held in grateful remembrance by Mrs. A. K. Farr and children. (Source: The Cherokee Weekly Times, Thurs., May 17, 1894, pg. 1)
