Loren J. Kuhrts, 75, of Quimby, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 18th, in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee due to an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, from the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby, Iowa. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa. There will be military rites at the graveside by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. and the Washta American Legion.

He was born on March 30, 1924, at Holstein, Iowa to Ernest and Hilda (Schlinz) Kuhrts. He graduated from Quimby High School. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, in the Pacific Campaign, and received the Purple Heart, the Silver Star and the Bronze Star. He was married to Mary Lue Regennitter on November 1, 1984, at New Sharon, Iowa. He had farmed and did grain bin construction for 32 years and following this he was in the carpentry business. He had been a resident of Quimby the past 5 years residing at 211 W. Railway Ave., prior to his he had lived in Washta for 8 years and prior to that on a farm east of Washta in Willow Township for many years. He was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby, Iowa. He was a member of the L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W., American Legion at Washta, Iowa, Quimby Golf Course, Quimby Town and Country Club and was a former Boy Scout Leader.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lue, 2 sons and 3 daughters: Linda Kuhrts of Colorado and Stephen Kuhrts of Colorado; Tamy Renken and her husband Rodger of Cherokee, Iowa; Cindy Hanner and her husband Lyle of Quimby, Iowa; Marty Bumann of Washta, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Harlan Bumann, Christi, Wesly and Toby Grohe, Heather and Beth Hanner, Eric and Christian Kuhrts; 1 brother and sister: Early Kuhrts and his wife Gloria of Alta, Iowa; Gladys Rupp and her husband Robert of Cherokee, Iowa.
