Lenora Bengston, 84, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 19, 1998, in the Casa de Paz Nursing Home in Sioux City, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 22, from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, rural Cherokee.

Mrs. Bengston was born May 5, 1914, at Cleghorn, Iowa to Eric and Ellen (Erickson) Johnson. She graduated from the Larrabee, Iowa High School. On January 11, 1937, she married Clifford E. Bengston in Cherokee. She had been a resident of Cherokee since 1985, prior to this living on a farm in Pitcher Township near Aurelia, Iowa. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was active in various church groups.

Survivors include a son, Robert Bengtson and his wife, Linda, Aurelia; two daughters: Darlene and her husband Frank Moss, Sioux City; and Carolyn Catania, Sioux City; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two brothers: Loren Johnson and his wife, Mary, Lake San Marcos, California; and Ralph Johnson and his wife, Maureen, Belmond, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford on May 24, 1997; a son, Dennis Bengtson in 1947, a son-in-law, Gary Catania in 1995; and a brother, Vernon Johnson.
