Mrs. John Nitz
Edna Josephine Montgomery Nitz, the daughter of Joseph and Jennie Montgomery, was born on a Cedar Township far, Cherokee County, Iowa on Oct. 29, 1885, and died at the age of 81 on July 26, 1967, at Cherokee, IA, following a four-year illness.

After attending a country school, south of Larrabee, she graduated from Larrabee High School then attended State Teachers College at Cedar Falls where she received a teacher’s certificate then taught for several years in country schools of Afton, Cedar and Rock Townships of the county.
She was married to John Nitz on Dec. 25, 1907, at Larrabee. The couple resided on a farm north of Larrabee for 40 years before retiring in 1948 to their Cherokee home.

Active in community affairs, she was a member of Larrabee Presbyterian Church until it closed then was active in the work of Larrabee Methodist Church until moving to Cherokee and becoming a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church and its women’s organization.

Preceding her in death were her parents, seven brothers and one sister.

Survivors are the widower, John; two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Geraldine) Boldt of Larrabee and Mrs. Dolan (Virginia) Olson, Cheyenne, Wyo., and one son, Robert Nitz, Larrabee; also, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 28 from Memorial Presbyterian Church here. Burial was in Cedar Cemetery under direction of Boothby Funereal Home. (Source: Cherokee Daily Times, Sat., Aug. 26, 1967, pg. 4)
