FORMER RESIDENT HAS PASSED AWAY
Brother of Mrs. Watson Pelton Died in Oregon on April 8.Charles Knapp, a brother of Mrs. Watson Pelton, and well known by the old settlers here, passed away on April 8 at Forest Grove, Oregon, aged 77 years. He leaves his widow and four children – Mrs. Edith McLean of Oregon; Georgia Fink and Edith Terwilleger, who reside in Canada; Dudley, their only son, who resides at home.
Mr. Knapp came to Cherokee county in 1868 and took up a homestead in Afton township. He went through all the privations of pioneer life and finally sold out here in 1882 and bought a farm near Rock Valley, Ia., where he resided several years, then, as old age came on, they decided to find a home where the winters were not so severe. They went to Oregon and located at Forest Grove. About a year ago, Mr. Knapp was stricken with heart disease and gradually failed until the end came.
