Helen F. Brooker, 81, of Green Valley, Arizona and former long time Cherokee resident, died Sunday, September 20 at the Mountain View Care Center in Tucson, Ariz., following a long illness.
Memorial services will be held October 21 from the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. The Carnation chapter #165, O.E.S. will have services.
She was born November 27, 1916, to Frank and Hazel (Grier) Stamp. She graduated from LeMars High School in 1934 and attended Western Union College now known as Westmar College. She was married to Wayne Brooker on Jul3, 1938 at LeMars, Iowa. She had lived in Davenport, Iowa and Silvis, Illinois before moving to Cherokee in April of 1940. She had lived in Cherokee until moving to Green Valley, Arizona in 1993. She was a member and Past Matron of Carnation Chapter #165, Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of Nile and Cherokee Ladies Shrine Club. She enjoyed playing golf and doing needlepoint.Survivors include her husband, Wayne and two daughters: Marily Jacobsen and her husband Larry of The Woodlands, Texas; Joyce Kintigh of Mansfield, Mass.; a son-in-law, Herb Kintigh of Spencer, Iowa; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother Dr. Warren Stamp of Charlottesville, Virginia and five nephews.
