Lawrence “Pete” Wurth, 89, of Marcus died Saturday, October 17, 1998, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.
Services were held Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Burial was in the Holy Name Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Wurth, Kenny Wurth, Andy Wurth, Tom Wurth, Dennis Wurth, Bob Wurth and Matt Leonard.
He was born December 16, 1908, in Paducah, Kentucky. He was the son of Florian and Maggie (Englert) Wurth. He spent his childhood years in the Paducah area and attended St. John’s Catholic School. He came to the Remsen area as a young man and worked on area farms. He married Clarinda Krier on September 9, 1941, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.
They farmed south of Marcus for forty-two years. They moved to Marcus in 1982. He had been a resident of Heartland Care Center since August of 1995.
He was a member of holy Name Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, past director of Farmers Co-op Elevator and former member of the Holy Name M Club.
Survivors include his wife Clarinda; five sons: Francis and his wife Pat; Milton and his wife Barbara; Joe and his wife Peg: Larry and his wife Jean all of Marcus and Marvin and his wife Peg of Platteville, Wisc; a daughter Mary and her husband Larry Leonard of Prairie Village, Kansas; a brother Florian Wurth of Paducah, Kentucky and two sisters, Hilda and her husband Leonard Grief of Paducah, Kentucky and Sister Cletus Mary, R.S.M, of Louisville, Kentucky; fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters. (Source: scrap book clipping hand dated 10-20-98)
