Final rites for Hugo H. Gehrls, 91, were held at Zion United Church of Christ, Lowden at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 1989 with the Rev. Steven Voelker officiating. Burial was in the Lowden cemetery. Marilyn Klahn was the organist.

Mr. Gehrls died at the Clarence Nursing Home Dec. 25. He had lived at the Westwind Retirement Home for 2 years.

The son of John and Augusta Hansen Gehrls, he worked as a carpenter. He was a graduate of Lowden high school. He married Frieda Kroh at Davenport Jan. 24, 1930. She died in April, 1987.

Mr. Gehrls was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Student Army Training Corps at Coe college from Oct. 5 to Dec. 13, 1918.

He is survived by a son, Gaylon H., 715 Stevens, Iowa Falls; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister.
