Last rites for Mrs. Edwin (Hazel) Butler, 84, a native of West Branch, were held in California Dec. 15, 1989. Mrs. Butler, who lived in Huntington Beach, died at Carehouse Convalescent hospital, Santa Ana, Calif. Dec. 12.

The daughter of Bruce and Sadie Lou Silar Thompson, she was born in West Branch March 21, 1905. She was a 1924 graduate of West Branch high school. She married Edwin J. Butler Oct. 11, 1925. They moved to California in 1929.

Mrs. Butler worked as a jewelry clerk for Sears, Roebuck and Co. in California and was active in senior citizen clubs.

She is survived by 2 sons, Duane, Phoenix, Ariz. and Tom, Newport Beach, Calif. and 2 daughters, Marge Slach, Fullerton, Calif. and Dorothy Shane, Santa Ana, Calif.; a sister, Dorothy Anderson, West Branch; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son.
