Funeral services for Mrs. Robert (Martha F.) Maher, 76, were held at St. Mary's Catholic church Oct. 24, 1988 with the Rev. Joseph P. Hines officiating. Burial was in St. Bridget's cemetery at Nolan Settlement. Pallbearers were David, Michael and Jeff Maher, Kurtis Voparil, Chris Paulson and Jeff Suchomel. John Paulson was an honorary bearer. Kathy Schott was organist. The rosary was held Oct. 23.

Mrs. Maher died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, Oct. 20.

The daughter of John and Agnes Kohautek Malek, she was born at Lhata, Czechoslovakia Sept. 21, 1912. She was educated in the rural Tama county and Cedar Rapids schools. She was married to Robert Maher at Cedar Rapids April 23, 1930.

She had been a resident of the Tipton area since 1946. She was a member of St. Mary's church and its Guild.

She is survived by her husband; 2 daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Voparil, Solon and Mrs. Linda Paulson, Carroll; 2 sons, Donald, Tipton and Pat, West Branch; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 2 stepsisters, Tillie Knutson, Mt. Vernon and Betty Sterner, Swisher and a step-brother, Stanley Svatosch, Mt. Vernon. She was preceded in death by a brother and a son.
