Eva Abigail Sherwood, 88, Seattle, Wash. and formerly of Tipton, died Oct. 2, 1988 at Providence hospital in Seattle. She had resided at Des Moines Vista Retirement Home in Seattle.
The first daughter of Harry and Agnes Stayner Sherwood, she was born Dec. 11, 1899 in Tipton.
She graduated from Tipton high school in 1919 and from Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls in 1925. She earned her MA at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. in 1933 and then taught at Spellman college in Atlanta.
In 1936 she completed her nursing degree at Emory and her nursing career took her to Georgia, New York, Connecticut and Montana, before settling in Seattle. She was a biology instructor at Seattle Pacific University from 1943 to 1948, was a member of University Baptist church and their choir; and was employed for many years at Swedish hospital in Seattle.
Eva Sherwood is survived by 3 nieces, Mrs. Dorothy McCafferty, Naches, Wash.; Mrs. Gloria Smith, Camdenton, Mo. and Mrs. Geneva Robinson, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; one nephew, Arthur Hain, Anaheim, Calif.; several great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-niece. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Helen Frederick and Inez Myers, both of Tipton.
