Raymond G. Wiemers
(November 23, 1927 - February 13, 2015)

Raymond G. Wiemers, age 87 of Pomeroy, Iowa passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb 13th, at his home in Pomeroy. Ray was born on November 23, 1927. He was the son of Heye & Catherine (Wall) Wiemers, and husband to Bette (Elizabeth) Wiemers. Ray attended Pomeroy High school. Ray served the US Navy from 1945-46, and the US Navy Reserves from 1946-48 aboard the USS Makin. He joined the US Air Force attaining the rank of Sgt and was stationed in Japan from 1948-52, during WWII. He has been a member of the AMVETS since 1953. After returning from the service, he came back to live and farm in Pomeroy. He married his wonderful wife Bette Thesing on December 30, 1965, at Elk point, SD. They renewed their vows with Fr. Brian and have been blessed for 49 years. Ray enjoyed taking pictures, camping, fishing and hunting. He had many talents, one of them playing the guitar. His band "the Stardusters" played several different cities, his favorite song was the Wildwood Flower and the Boogie. He and Bette would strike up the guitars just about anywhere. Ray received his pilot's license and enjoyed flying. He liked motorcycles, his first was a Harley that he had while stationed in Japan. Also, a jeep that brings to mind many memories with family and friends. His passion was growing roses and having a large garden, many vegetables that he shared with friends and neighbors. His watermelons won red and blue ribbons at the Spencer fair, with his largest watermelon weighing almost 200lbs. It was donated to the Care center for all to enjoy. Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His daughter's fondest memory is when they would ride around the countryside to find Santa at Christmas. He enjoyed his grandchildren and was so proud of his family. He is survived by his wife, Bette (Elizabath) Wiemers of Pomeroy, daughter: Stephanie (Matt) Dolan of West Des Moines; step-daughters Lynn Brenny and Cathy (Brian) Steinbauer of Owatonna, MN, and grandchildren: Tyler and Nicholas Dolan, Jason and Nathan Brenny, Alex Jr. and Stacy Hodgell, Jessica and Justin Steinbauer. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-son, Robert Booge, step-daughter, Karen Booge step-granddaughter, Leslie Hodgell, brothers, Walt and Charles, and sister, Wilma.
