Virginia D. Wiemers
(July 3, 1927 - April 5, 2015)

Virginia D. Wiemers, age 87 of Pomeroy, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015, at the Pomeroy Care Center in Pomeroy, Iowa. Virginia Dorothy (Pierick) Wiemers, the only child of Joseph and Lillian (Shors) Pierick, was born July 3, 1927, in Palmer, IA. During her childhood, the family moved to a farm near Pocahontas, IA. Virginia attended country school in Lincoln Township until 1941, when she began high school in Rolfe, IA. She graduated from Rolfe High School in 1945. Virginia ("Ginger") enjoyed life on the farm, and after graduation, she continued to help her parents with all aspects of farm life. On June 21, 1948, Virginia married Walter H. Wiemers at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas, IA. Following their marriage, they made their home on the Wiemers family farm just outside Pomeroy, IA. Virginia's fondest memories were of life on the farm where she and Walter raised their family. She enjoyed having a large vegetable garden, raising chickens, ducks and geese and working alongside Walter as they farmed the land and raised livestock. Supporting the children's school activities, canning her garden produce, baking, cooking, sewing, fishing, doing crafts and growing flowers were some of her favorite hobbies. She and Walter enjoyed playing cards and attending local dances, where they typically heard big band sounds as well as polka music. Virginia was an avid reader. She passed on this love of reading to her grandchildren through children's story books and magazine subscriptions to Ranger Rick. She was a member of the J.F.F. (Just For Fun) Club, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, an Honorary Member of St. Mary's Altar Society and a past member of the Pomeroy Library Board. When she and Walter retired, they moved into Pomeroy. Walter passed away on November 23, 2003. In December 2007 Virginia moved into an apartment at Scuyler Place in Pomeroy, where she continued to live until 2012, when she became a resident of the Pomeroy Care Center. Virginia continued to enjoy playing cards and solving crossword puzzles, but most important of all, she loved her family -- her most treasured moments were those times spent with her family and friends. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Heye Wiemers; husband, Walter; sister-in-law, Wilma (Wiemers) Mineart; and brothers-in-law: Maurice Mineart, Charles Wiemers, and Raymond Wiemers. Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Alan (Sandy) Wiemers, Kathy (Barry) Wehler, Calvin (Billie) Wiemers, and Christine (Chris) Baird; two sisters-in-law: Thulin Wiemers and Bette Wiemers; four grandchildren: Tracey (Tina) Wiemers, Kevin (Kim) Wiemers, Scott Wiemers, and Shawn Wiemers; two step-grandchildren: Jessica (Jon) Harvey and Adam Kolar; six great grandchildren: Jacob, Cole, Kollyn, Kody, Jace, and Cade Wiemers; many other relatives and friends.
