Myron Eddy an Old Resident Passes to Rest
Myron Levi Eddy, 70, a native of Buchanan County, passed away at his home in this city Friday morning, May 1. About eight weeks ago he suffered a paralytic stroke from which he never fully recovered. The funeral service was held at the Methodist Episcopal Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. Floyd Weed officiating. Burial was made in Wilson cemetery.
He was born on a farm three miles northeast of Independence on October 18, 1860, the son of Levi and Maria (Smith) Eddy. During his youthful days he attended the district schools and when 17, he went to Colorado, spending two and a half years in Denver. During part of the time, he was employed as a foreman on a railroad. He returned to Iowa and on August 28, 1882, he was married to Lucy Hennagir, who was born near Quasqueton. He devoted his time to general agricultural pursuits until he came to this city some fifteen years ago.
Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Eddy. Four preceded the father in death. Those who survive Mr. Eddy are his wife, one son, Arthur of Mason City, four daughters, all of whom reside in Waterloo: Mrs. Roger Slevey, Mrs. Elmer Bennett, Mrs. Frank Gowl, and Mrs. Warren Wood. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Five brothers and one sister live to mourn his passing: George and Furlow of Independence; Eleck of Whittier, Calif.; D.C. Eddy of Fairfield, Iowa, Joy Eddy of Independence and Mrs. Else Olds of Albany, Ill.,
Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mesdames Roger Sevey, Elmer Bennett, Frank Cowl, Warren Wood, daughters all of Waterloo, and Arthur Eddy of Mason City. D.C. Eddy of Fairfield, a brother and Mrs. Olds, a sister of Albany, Ill., were also there. Other relatives were Mr. and Mrs. Pete Trieweiler of Vinton, Raymond Casteel, and Dora Bennett, both of Waterloo, grandchildren.
Mr. Eddy was a farmer and a cattle buyer in his active life. He was prompt in all his dealings. He was a good husband, father and friend. This pioneer resident will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
