This website was launched befittingly on the 71st Anniv. of the United States involvement in WWII, 12/7/2012. Seventy-one years ago, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, brought the U.S. into World War II. In his address asking Congress for a declaration of war, President Franklin D. Roosevelt called Dec. 7, 1941, a date that "will live in infamy."

- Thanks to WWII Hamilton County contributor, Pat Juon, for submitting her transcriptions of the following: Hamilton County - Newspaper articles of letters written by Pvt. John "Jack" Petrow, of Company E, 133rd infantry, 34th Division, U. S. national guard, stationed at Camp Claiborne, La., doubtless is undergoing similar experiences of "Private Plink,” the hero of the cartoon which is published daily in the Freeman-Journal. “Plink” Petrow’s articles will be carried at various times in which he will tell of experiences with Company E while in camp. **These articles are well written and tell about the private's experiences and life at Camp Clairborne, La. This book is a fabulous source of the Iowa National Guard history, with so many pages of facts, photos and description of those involved--A very special book of documentation, leading up the United States involvement in WWII--All the history specific to Iowa. The pages are being transcribed and photos uploaded with as much description as the pages revealed. The 1938 index is ready...with four Topics now loaded. Watch for more in the weeks ahead.
