Arthur Hugo Frederick was born Jan 26, 1907 to Otto, Jr. and Eva Frederick in Des Moines, IA. He lived his entire life in the Des Moines, IA area; growing up in Fort Des Moines and attending two years of high school at Lincoln High.
Art enlisted in the US Army on May, 1944 at the age of 37. Prior to entering service, Art was employed for 17 years at the Iowa Packing Company in Des Moines. Art worked in the meat packing industry in Des Moines before and after his military service years.
Art was assigned overseas duty December 1944. He was a task force member with the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion which gave vital protection to Major General Charles P. Hall’s 11th Corps in its drive to open Manila Bay for Allied shipping. Private Frederick was proud of his service record during the war, participating in the dramatic recapture of Bataan and Corregidor from the Japanese forces.
While Art was serving in the South Pacific, his only son**, Robert, was also serving in the US Army guarding ammunition bunkers at Diamond Head, Hawaii.
