Arnold Frank “Brick” Bargenquast was born Feb. 4, 1914 to Henry Gustav and Anna Christina Wendt Bargenquast. He died Oct. 6, 1944/FOD Oct. 7, 1945 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Oak Hill Cemetery, Irwin, IA.
Petty Officer Bargenquast served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) which was hit by a bomb in the attack on Pearl Harbor. He later served with the submarine service aboard the USS Seawolf (SS-197). The Seawolf was sunk in error by the USS Rowell (DE-403) in the vicinity of the Philippine Islands. He was MIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
