Raymond Albert Nutt was born Dec. 11, 1925 to Ernest and Ruby Matilda Van Patten Nutt. He died July 30, 1945 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in IOOF Cemetery, Indianola, IA.
Petty Officer Nutt served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) and was MIA/FOD/KIA when that vessel was sunk after being struck by Japanese torpedoes in the Pacific Ocean. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
