Frederick R Williams, 62, known to many Sioux Cityans as the "Goody Candyman" of Fourth and Pierce Streets, died Sunday in a hospital after an extended sickness. Dressed in white, from head to foot, Mr. Williams was a familiar figure afternoons and evenings on Sioux City's busiest corner where he dispensed his bags of candy from a movable stand. Mr. Williams began his business in 1902 and continued until 1914, when he took a position as news agent on the Milwaukee railroad. He was back on the corner again in 1930.

The candyman retired in 1938, because of ill health.

Mr. Williams, who resided at 622 W Fourth Street with his wife, was born May 13, 1880 at Blunt, Illinois. When he was still a boy he moved with his parents to Salina, Kansas, where a short time later both his father and his mother were killed in a tornado. He came to Sioux City in 1900.

Surviving are his widow, Annie, a son Dale, in the marine corps and three grandchildren at Saratoga Springs, NY.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon in Nelson Berger funeral home, Rev. H.M. Burns will officiate. Burial will be in Logan Park cemetery.
