shooting of my great grandfather

My grandfather, John Thomas Huffman, remembered helping his mother Anna Belle, nee Buoye,Hicks, bury his father in his yard, after being shot..I can find no record of his death: May 18,1882 {from bible} Anna was pregnant at the time and then married William Cook and lived in Sioux City. The shooting occured in Mapleton, Iowa
