Gary Gordon Goodsell, formerly of Sioux City, passed away unexpectedly in Sun City, Arizona on December 17, 2023, at the age of 68. Gary will be laid to rest in a graveside service on Saturday, May 11th at 1:00 p.m. at the Omaha Valley Cemetery in Homer, NE.

Gary was born November 13, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Barbara and Lewis ("Doc") Goodsell. Gary is preceded in death by his mother and father and two nephews, Alexander Certain and Adam Certain. He is survived by his two children, Michael Goodsell (Abbey Bean) and Anna Goodsell. Gary was always very proud of his children and their accomplishments. Gary is also survived by his sisters Susan Assouline (Jose Assouline) and Beth Certain (Joe Hymer), and his brother Gregg Goodsell (Amy Goodsell), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gary attended Central High School in Sioux City during its final year of classes prior to closing in 1972. Gary then attended North High School for two years, graduating in 1974. Gary was a great athlete, playing football, wrestling, and running track. Gary played offensive tackle and defensive tackle for the North High Stars, often playing the entire football game. Gary set a North High record for the 220-yard dash. Gary also attended The University of Iowa.

Gary was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed backpacking and camping. He especially enjoyed his backpacking and camping trips with his Uncle Ed Kean.

Gary was a Freemason, having achieved the degree of Master Mason in 1982 at the age of 26. Gary was an active member for many years of Lodge Star No. 115 in Madrid, Iowa, where he achieved the office of Worshipful Master in 2004 and 2005.

Gary worked in the sheet metal and HVAC industries for many years and owned his own HVAC business in Iowa and Arizona. Gary was recently retired from the HVAC business.

During the hot summer months in Phoenix, Gary enjoyed spending time in the cool, mountain climate of Cortez, Colorado.

Gary was a kind and generous good-hearted soul, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
