Thomas Thompson was born in 1830 or 1833, depending on which record you look at. His tombstone says 1830-1903, but Civil War records & some subtraction using census sheets lend credence to 1833. He came to America in 1857 & settled in Rooks Creek twp. of Livingston Co., Illinois. He married Christina Mitchell in Pontiac, Ill. in 1860 & enlisted in the Union Army in 1862. He didn't last long in the army because he was wounded in the battle of Stones River in Dec. of 1862 & discharged in Jan of 1863 with a pension. The report reads that he was wounded in both shoulders so severely that he wouldn't be able to probably hold a rifle. The couple had 2 sons, Owen & Mitchell. The whole family moved to Webster Co., Ia. in the late 1880's. Too bad we don't have the 1890 census, but they are in Webster Co. in the 1895 census & not in 1885. Owen & wife Delia Gord Thompson had children & the only one born in Illinois was Clarence b. in 1886. By Lillie's birth in 1891, they were in Iowa. They are buried in Hovey Cemetery, nw of Badger.
