Marge Luckey, 78, Writer, Editor, Dies After Lingering Illness
Martha Marguerite Luckey, 78, of Riverside, a longtime correspondent for the Washington Evening Journal, died Saturday, September 12, 1981, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lingering illness.
Funeral services were Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Sorden’s Funeral Chapel in Riverside with the Rev. Thomas Mohr and Walter E. Boeckman officiating. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Luckey was born September 19, 1902, in Washington County, a daughter of Fred and Viola McGee Annas. She attended Columbus Community schools. She married Carl A. Luckey on March 3, 1919, in Washington. In addition to her work with the Evening Journal, she was editor of the Riverside News and Shopper and helped compile the Riverside Centennial Book.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two sons, one daughter, one brother and one sister.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Eileen) Wilson; Mrs. Merle (Clover) Blieu of Washington; Dr. Virginia Moldenhauer of Marengo; Mrs. Glen (Nancy) Miller of Solon; Mrs. Pat (Patricia) Strickland of Baxter, and Mrs. Marilla Flanagan of Marengo; two sons, Fred Luckey of Iowa City, and James Luckey of Rock Spring, Wyoming; one stepson, Dale Luckey of Center Line, Michigan; 28 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Pall bearers were Don Kirchner, Clayton Sexton, Albert Watson, Ed Shetak, Maynard Strabala and Charlie Weaver.
