Gerritt Heemsbergen

Gerritt Heemsbergen, 61, of 543 S. Ransom, Ottumwa died December 23, 1990, at his home.

He was born January 17, 1929, in Monroe County to Everet and Marie Heemsbergen. He married Phylis N. Parcell on Sept. 9, 1948, in Hayesville; she died in 1989. He married Edith Reinier Stouthammer on Jan. 1, 1990, in Ottumwa.

He was reared and educated in Monroe County and graduated from Pleasantville High School. He moved to the Selma area in 1965, where he farmed and then moved to Ottumwa in January of 1990.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Dan of Ottumwa, David and Curtis of Selma and Craig of Bloomfield; a daughter, Cheryl Thrasher of Chicago, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Shelly O'Dell of Ottumwa and Brenda Hughes of Benton Harbor, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five brothers, Bill of Troy, Texas, Marion of Central Center, Minn.; Marvin and John of Tuscon(err), Ariz., and Melvin of Elke River, Minn.; and two sisters, Dena Larson and Gertrude Anderson of Albert Lea, Minn.

He was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Gary.

The services were held at 1:30 Monday, December 31, 1990 at Campbell-Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon, the Rev. David Albert officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery near Eldon.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
