H. Hortense Crawford

Hattie Hortense Crawford, daughter of James and Annie Craig Crawford, was born October 25, 1897 at Latham, Missouri and died the morning of Saturday, June 9, 1990 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua, at the age of 92.

She graduated from California, Missouri High School, earned her Bachelor's degree at MacMurray College, Jacksonville, Ill. and her Master's degree at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

She taught in several Missouri high schools, Central Methodist College, Fayette, Mo., Southeast Missouri State Teachers College, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant.

Miss Crawford moved to Keosauqua to live with her sister, the late Cornelia C. Hodges in 1975.

She was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church, Chapter I, PEO, Keosauqua, the Order of Eastern Star, and Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's sorority.

Surviving are a niece, Rachel Harwood of Portland, Oregon, a nephew, Jack Crawford, California, Mo., other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 11, 1990 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua, with Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Interment was on Tuesday, June 12, 1990 in Masonic Cemetery, California, Missouri. A memorial was established for the PEO Sisterhood. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
