Ellis L. Miller, 88, of 504 South Adams Street, Mount Pleasant, Iowa died at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 1989 at the Henry County Health Center, Mount Pleasant.
Born January 1, 1901 in Lee County, he was the son of Bruce and Daisy Brownlee Miller. He married Mary Ruth Johnson January 1, 1925 in Fort Madison. She died October 18, 1978. He then married Secial M. Shumaker April 18, 1985 in Mount Pleasant.
He attended Hillsboro and Mount Pleasant high schools and the Fort Madison Business College. He was employed in Chicago, Illinois for a short time. He moved to Hillsboro where he farmed before retiring in 1973 and then moved to Mount Pleasant. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant, the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Lions Club, the Farm Bureau, and the High Twelve, Brandon, Florida. He was formerly a member of the Big Mound Methodist Church, Hillsboro, had been a 4-H leader and was an active volunteer with the Henry County Health Center, Mount Pleasant, and the Humans Hospital, Brandon, Florida.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie (Fred) Nordstrom, Sanibel, Florida; two brothers, Kenneth Miller, Hillsboro, and Donald Miller, Audubon; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials have been established for the University of Iowa Hospital Lions Eye Bank and the First United Methodist Church.
