BONAPARTE - Melba Thornburg, 61, Bonaparte, died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 1989, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hillsboro Christian Church with the Rev. Dave Callen officiating. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Farmington, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorials to Bonaparte First Responders may be left at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thornburg was born June 14, 1927, at Menahga, Minn., the daughter of Abel and Anna Ristinen. She married Dale Thornburg Jan. 15, 1947, at Menahga. She lived in Bonaparte for 13 years and was a former employee of Sylvania in Burlington. She was a member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church in Keosauqua.
Surviving are two sons, Stan of rural Donnellson, LeRoy of Bonaparte; two daughters, Carol Harper of Keota, Karen Stanley of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren; a brother, Nels Ristinen of Minneapolis; three sisters, Elizabeth Snabb of Minneapolis, Sylvia Haverinen of Savage, Minn., Rose Snyder of Plainville, Kan. Her parents, her husband, five brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.
