Rex E. Jannings

Rex E. Jannings, 81, Fort Madison, died at 12:36 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 1989 at Fort Madison Community Hospital. He had been in failing health five years and seriously ill two weeks.

Mr. Jannings was born December 11, 1907 in Lee County. He farmed in the Hillsboro area before retirement. He was a member of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge and the Fort Madison Elks Lodge.

On May 17, 1930 at Stockport, he married Isabel Blickely, who died January 26, 1969. On September 30, 1977 at Carthage, Illinois, he married Joy Mehmert, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert of Burlington and Richard of Davenport; two daughters, Mrs. William (Donna) Reed, Irvine, California, and Mrs. T.M. (Carol) Goodson, Davenport; a stepson, Robert Mehmert, Davenport; a brother, Russell of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. His parents were Walter and Nellie Jannings.

Services were held Thursday, March 23, 1989 at King-Lynk Funeral Home, Fort Madison. The Reverend Gordon Lundberg officiated. Burial was in Hillsboro Cemetery.

A memorial is being established with the Iowa Heart Association. Contributions may be made at the King-Lynk Funeral Home.
