Bessie Ramsey

Bessie Ramsey, 83, of 243 N. Moore died Feb. 6, 1989, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

She was born Nov. 2, 1905 in Hatfield, Mo., to John W. and Belva Justice Cook. She had lived in Batavia, Cantril, Blakesburg and moved to Ottumwa in 1980. She had been a telephone operator for several years. She married Delbert B. Ramsey on Nov. 27, 1922, in Leon; he died Feb. 9, 1957.

She is survived by two daughters, Belva Clark of Casper, Wyo., and Willa Talley of Bloomfield; a son, Ronald of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter and two sisters, Mabel Vacek an(and) Ruth Beasley of Leon; and three brothers, Albert Cook of Red Oak, Garland Cook of Winterset and George of Lamoni.

The service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at Campbell Funeral Home in Eldon, the Rev. Kermit Black officiating. Burial was in Blakesburg Cemetery, Blakesburg.
