Richard S. Watts

Richard S. Watts, 93, Dallas City, died at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at Burlington Medical Center. He had been in failing health five years and seriously ill two months.

Mr. Watts was born Feb. 2, 1906, at Bonaparte. He was employed for 15 years at the former Hade Motor Co. in Fort Madison. From 1937 to 1967, he lived in Albuquerque, N.M., where he was co-owner of Heights Auto Service for several years. He was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Modern Woodmen of American for more than 50 years, the Lomax Senior Citizens, the AARP and the Burlington Senior Bowling Association. An Army veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the American Legion and was a life member of the Disabled Veterans.

On Sept. 30, 1925, at Keokuk, he married Claudine Elaine Howell, who died Nov. 21, 1985.

Surviving are nephews and nieces.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. His parents were Robert Elmer and Ina Ione Cox Watts.

The body is at the Barr Memorial Chapel in fort Madison where services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Ed Snow will officiate. Burial will be in Soldiers' Circle of Oakland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Barr Memorial Chapel after noon today.
