Howard Harlan

Howard Henry Harlan, 82, of Rocky Mountain, Mo., formerly of Burlington, died at 12:05 a.m. Monday, May 15, 1989, at Jefferson Memorial Community Hospital, Jefferson City, Mo.

Born July 31, 1906, in Hillsboro, he was the son of Walter and Lilly Tade Harlan. He married Esther Shelman Feb. 4, 1928, in Monmouth, Ill.

He had been employed with the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 30 years and as a mail carrier for eight years. He was a member of the Fellowship Bible Church, Eldon, Mo., the local and national Retired Federal Employees and the American Association of Retired Persons. In 1973, he moved from Burlington to Fort Pierce, Fla., where he lived for 10 years before moving to Rocky Mountain, Mo., April 3, 1984.

Surviving are his wife; one son, H. Eugene Harlan, Anderson, Ind.; one daughter, Helen K. Martin, Rocky Mountain, Mo.; two sisters, Ruth E. Hoaglin, Hillsboro and Jensen Beach, Fla., and Lola B. Sainsbury, Hillsboro and Utterson, Ontario, Canada; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel.

The service for Mr. Harlan will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Fellowship Bible Church, Eldon, Mo.
