Roy E. Lewis rite at Linby

LINBY - Roy E. Lewis, 72, Linby, died Sunday, May 7, 1989, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Linby Baptist Church with Joe Selix, pastor, and the Rev. Don Harbour officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg. Family visitation will be after 7 tonight at Gould Funeral Home in Richland. A memorial has been established.

Lewis was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Douds, the son of Charles M. and Merl Johnson Lewis. He attended West Union County School. He married Lila May Clingman May 18, 1940, in Ottumwa. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Chuck of Ottumwa; two daughters, Nancy Bell of What Cheer, Diana Cain of Ottumwa; six grandchildren; three sisters, Lucile Hining of Fairfield, Mary Kawano and Beulah Lewis, both of Chicago. His parents and an infant sister preceded him in death.

Lewis was a self-employed mechanic and for 20 years was bus superintendent and transportation director at Pekin Community High School. He was a member of Linby Baptist Church, Ollie Masons AF and AM 549, Ollie Order of Eastern Star, Packwood Lions, consistory of Davenport, Kaaba Shrine of Ottumwa and Fairfield, and a charter member of Consistory Club in Ottumwa.

He donated his eyes to the Iowa Lions eye bank.
