Franklin Niece

Franklin Arnold Niece, 71, of Hillsboro died at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 1989 at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua.

Born February 3, 1918 near Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Elmer and Lillian Leach Niece. He married Thelma Dinsmore December 3, 1936 in Kahoka, Missouri.

He was a farmer before retiring and also was employed with various area rock quarries. He was stationed in the Pacific Ocean with the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. He was a member of the Hillsboro American Legion for 43 years.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Gene A. Niece, Fort Smith, Arkansas; two daughters, Mrs. Janice (John) Ibbotson, West Burlington, and Mrs. Linda (Ira) Pintzuk, San Diego, California; one brother, Fred Niece, Richland; two sisters, Mrs. Erma Smith, Packwood, and Mrs. Mary Huston, Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The service for Mr. Niece was held Saturday, June 17, 1989 at the Hillsboro Baptist Church with Reverend Ed Newman officiating. Burial was in Hillsboro Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Hillsboro Cemetery and the American Cancer Society.

Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant was in charge of arrangements.
