Lura Dods Strong, daughter of L.W. and Iowa Johnston Dodds, was born May 3, 1896 near Stockport and died the evening of Tuesday, February 7, 1989 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua, at the age of 92.
She grew up near Stockport, graduated from Stockport High School in 1915 and from Fort Madison Business College. She was employed by the United States Treasury Bureau of Public Debt i Washington, D.C. and Chicago, and retired in 1955. She late moved to Aurora, Ill. and to the Good Samaritan Center in 1987.
She married Warren Strong August 21, 1929 in Washington, D.C. He preceded her in death were five brothers, Conley, Barton Doyle, Dee, Lex, and Malcom Dodds, and three sisters, Kathryn Calhoun, Erma Duncan, and Selma Dodds.
Surviving are a sister, Fanchon Dodds of Keosauqua with whom she had made her home for many years, including the time at the Good Samaritan Center, a brother, Harve Dodds and his wife, Frances, of Stockport, two sisters-in-laws, Lola Bell Sainsbury of Hillsboro and Eva Lee Dodds, Washington, D.C., nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Strong was a member of the Baptist Church and had been an Eastern Star.
Funeral services were held Friday,, Feb. 10, 1989 at 10 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Matthew May officiating. Interment was in Miller Chapel Cemetery, northeast of Keosauqua. A memorial was established for the Good Samaritan Center.
